Grumpy, I was a cook in the Army for more than 16 yrs till Bill Clinton screwed 160,000 of us between '91-'92 with their draw down and base closers...shift work most of it. 1st day in at 11am, done when ever, sometimes after midnight, the next day in at 3:30 am out after cooks meeting at 1300, (1pm), then back in at 1100 the next day and rinse and repeat. On week-ends it was every other week-end. ALL day both days...O330-till when ever, and MON. morning at 0330 till after cooks meeting.
Ration man was the best job. Now you worked everyday, that's for sure, but once everything was done, you were usually outta their...
Was the Battalion night baker for a while too... 1700, (5pm)-0500, (5am). Got called back in a lot for meetings, and special assignments.
I said all that to say, sometimes I only get 3-4 hrs of sleep because I can't lay in bed awake, and I just don't sleep like I should because even after being out 29 yrs. I'm still not adjusted to the outside world....But that is a good thing...
