Default Hematite and glow powder beads

I have a bunch of polished hematite beads.
I want to powder coat or otherwise paint them with
    Glow Inc glow paint.

The reason is I want a long lasting glow bead that
has a little weight to it.

The concern I have is the beads are shine polished
Will I need to scuff them for the glow powder to
stick or will it work just like regular powder paint?

I don't think the shine will be a problem BUT, you will have to be careful to not plug your holes with coating, and creative on how you bake them as to keep from drilling holes back open. Good question and can hardly wait to here better responses than I have.

I have used that glow powder for many years making my glow jigs. I can tell you that it is a little touchy as to how much Glow Powder you can put in Clear Powder paint. I am sure you don't want more than 20% Glow Powder and it will still feel rough when finished. So I use to coat over with Softex to make it smooth again. I am not sure how your going to do that with beads, good luck!

I would just buy the powder paint if I went that route but it seems maybe the liquid might be a better choice. Putting some fishing line through the bead and then dipping may be a much better option. The only question with the liquid is should I go with water base or solvent base?

Skip, if I read the sight correctly the larger the particles the better the glow, correct?

To tell you the truth I am not sure. When I bought my Glow Powder they didn't have all the different sizes of it. I would just ask the guys at Glow Inc about that if I was wanting to buy some. I have more than I will ever use now. I was just saying when the power with liquid dries it feels rough, not smooth at all. So I use an overcoat of softex to make it get smooth feeling. I don't know anything about how you are going to get that done on beads. Should be interesting.

Hmm, maybe I can make my own beads with a bead of another kind.
I have a turning device, well an old toy I converted and use for hot glue.
Maybe I can take a thin wire hook, put a rondel bead on it.
Mix the softex and glow powder and make my own. Might be able to do it with the hematite beads if the wire is small enough.

Might be able to do this with untra clear hot glue also.

    Will have to try both.
