Here is that thread. Good to know for my next jig painting adventure.

A few weeks ago I read a post where someone in this forum explained their solution to powder painting and keeping paint out of the eyes of the jig without ruining his hemostats. The key was to hold the jig with your fingers until up to temp, cover the eye with the hemostats, dip and whalla, no paint in the eye, or on the hemostats, because it was never heated. I've looked for that post and can not find it, but it's a great tip I just employed today for the first time. Thanks, vielen dank, gracias, pilamaya, cam o'n !!!

Yup this is how I did it for years except with curved needle nose pliers. I always heat the jig by holding with my fingers.

Mike 1234, thank you. I have been painting Curtis Hobbs "Litewire" jigs all week and used your technique. It is a perfect, simple way to eliminate a problem. I have yet to have a filled eye, however, my hemostat is looking like it has been tie dyed :-)

A little note to add to that, when the hook gets too hot and you want to put it down, the head temp is just right, time to dip in the powder.i use small spring loaded needle nose pliers for mine.

Here is my method and I normally powder paint 300 at one setting. That’s the number my racks will hold. I also use torch hooked up to 20 pound tank. That gives me pencil like flame and heats the jigs pretty quick. I do not use fluid bed even though I have several. My method....I heat the hook and then use 2oz cup slightly tilted and swish the hook and be sure powder paint on both sides of the leadhead. I do not dip the leadhead and very seldom get any paint on the barb or the eye. In my opinion, paint on the barb causes the jig to slip off....I have three things on my table: 1. Pair of pliers in case I see opening in the eye 2. Small piece of white paper so I can be sure eye is closed and no paint in eye 3. Scribe in case (I’m not perfect) there is slight paint in eye. All powder paint not same viscosity but I use this method on all colors.....just some paints are lot easier to use.......anyway that’s my method. I then dot the eye and bake in the oven. In my younger days (with good eyesight) lot faster.....
P.S.....I hold jigs with my fingers
