I use 60 lb. mono for my weed guards poured into the lead head. 40 just seems like it wouldn’t be quite stiff enough to me. The 60 isn’t very stiff.

They are very easy to do, with a vise & quick. I do not mind losing a few jigs, "BUT" - I do mind hanging up in a tree or other structure and running all the fish away, when you pull and shake the limbs, ETC. Live Scope will show you how they disperse quickly.

They make cheap weed eater line. I dislike weed guards but make some for my family. The weed guard material is stiff so go as light as you can. Hey dental sized rubber bands work well too. Put over the jig head then stretch around and hook behind the bard. Not perfect but fairly effective. You wont catch soft biters though, the fish need to be aggressive.
