The thread should show on that kind of chenille unless you want it to?

Wrap the chenille all the way up against the head!

That ones with the large chenille I think for me your going a little too far back on the shank.

And I am trying to put them suggestions into practice. I've achieved my wife's (my fishing partner, usually) compliments of how nice they look.... That is now. And she just didnt really say much at first when I didn't have chenille yet, or proper thread. The first one was hand tied without a bobbin, used 10# braid fishing line, and cheap feathers off of a feather boa, lol... Didn't have my ducks in a row, yet. Still don't, but I'm closer now.

And the small chenille is working best.

The minnow head jigs is what's messing me up.... But I did tie one tonight that got right up to it pretty well.

I feel better as I go along. I got the hang of my whip finish tool. Finally.

We can't all be great right off at the start and I know it took me a while before I liked my own jigs, but it will come and practice is all you need after learning how to use all the tools. Actually I don't think we ever stop learning in this hobby since there are always new things to tie and new materials to use. The limit is how high can you dream or think?

Well said Skip. I made some relly rough jigs at first. Practice. Getting good tools and materials helped me the most I think! I watched a lot of the old videos and that always lead to getting more stuff you know!!

I think they’ll do just fine. As for the finer points, they will work their way into the way you tie one at a time. Materials will change the end result but aren’t needed in the beginning. Get a few and just try different things, like how to hide your thread and how not to add too much on the finish. Patience most of all, don’t rush yourself to do a jig like someone who has been tying for a long time. You will get there.

I also started this as a hobby now I have 400 plus ties wondering what to do with because I still fish my plastic and Minnows but I still love to look for new cheap tying materialsName: 20200125_120637.jpg

I really appreciate the good info.
I was compiling a big ole list of materials to buy... I do need a few things, but I don't want to get spread out farther than where my meager experience is at. It will only muddy up my tying with too many materials.

Focus on the small details to get them right.
The advice I've gotten here is really good stuff.

I'm trying to get fatter bodies on my ties. I figure that's what a tasty minnow looks like.
Think about ways to get more material where you want it to be fatter, if you want it. Name: 20200229_064445.jpeg
