    Default Blade size

Silly question, I’ve purchased some pony head jigs and I want willow blades instead. Is there a specific size you should use for each weight or just whatever size/action you prefer? I have 1/32 and 1/16. Thanks

I use 00 for the 1/32nd and 0 or 00 (depending on who you get your blades from) for the 1/16th

Crazy Angler has a smaller version 00 and LPO has a larger 00

If you use one too large it will make the head go in circles. So you want to be right with blade size, but their is a little leeway in that. Example for this is what they call a 1/32 Oz Pony head is really closer to a 1/24, but a 1/32 Oz Roadrunner head is really close to 1/32. So on the I can use 00 on both or if I choose I can use the 0 on a 1/32 Oz Pony head. The really choices that can make a difference then becomes the shape of the blade. For example we have Hydrilla and other vegetation and I like a Willow Leaf blade, but if I am in a area that is not thick with grass maybe I want to try a Colorado blade to get more federation and flash? It's all on each persons choice, but if you choose too lard of a blade on a 1/32 Oz bait it will not be pretty, lol!

Oh and also know the 00 from one Mfg. is the same as a 0 from the other Mfg. so it's important to know who made it IMHO!

Great question, and great responses. I really never gave the blade size any thought. Thanks Skip for your input on this. I get all of my hardware from Jan's net craft. I do believe I an using 00 on both 1/32 and 1/16.

I would go to at least a 0 on the 1/16, but if you get a willow blade I use a #1.

I think I’m gonna get size 0 for the 1/32 and size 1 for the 1/16. Looking for premium willow blades. The ponyheads should come with Colorado blades already. Different manufacturers sizes are different but I’m thinking size 0 is around .625” and size 1 around .75”.

Actually Roadrunners come with an Indiana blade.

I use #1's and bigger for heavier jigs. The bigger ones can give you some line twist when fishing deep...

1/32 00 or 0 and 1/16th at lease a 1, but play around with it and see what they like. That's the fun of making them!!
