Hey guys, take a look at these jigs and tell me what you think. Be honest, because the goal is to catch fish. The place where I will be fishing normally has clear water and so I was trying to tie up some things with bright colors. If there is something I need to change, please tell me. I hope that Stump Hunter will chime in on these because he knows and fishes where I will be.

    Thanks

Hey buddy looks like you at it. Let me warn you about the marabou, if that is for sure what these tails are. Marabou is a bit of a weak feather and easy to break so even one that has a little too much will soon loose some until there is hardly any left! So if you start out with just a few strands they soon will all be gone. Using this small chenille you probably should double wrap it so it's not that skinny of a body. Actually you can probably go back and add one more layer if you want!

Good lookin jigs - them puppies will hunt. Really like the yellow ostrich jig. I would fish all of
them and let the fish tell you what they think.
Ronnie is a great mentor - some of the best "how to" videos (for fishing and tying) on youtube.
Majority of my tyes are for Bluegill, Green Sunfish hybrids and Redear.
You might want to try the same patterns with silicon tails. Ostrich is great for bodies but little fish
pick it apart in the tail. For small jigs, try marabou fluffs. I use them with the stem. Duck flank
feathers are another good tail material.
I smooth my jigs before painting - don't think the fish care....

Out here, fishing skinny - clear water, we usually go with more neutral/natural & iridescent (peacock stuff) colors. Like to use
fluorescent (UV) & phosphorus (glow in the dark) materials for medium or deep water.

Thanks, everyone. Skip, the tails are ostrich plume fibers. They are still pretty delicate though. You can get them in a lot of different colors. It was what I had to work with.

GF it is a good start and like the others the tail needs more material. Having to use long peacock hurl the soft material will get pulled off and you will end up with just stems.

PM me your address and I’ll send you some material to get you going on the right steps. Meanwhile try tying woolly bloggers on the jig. Natural colors will work well.

Yes I have some ostrich too, just want unsure if it was Marabou or something else, still would add a little more if mine. Also still a good job by you tying!

The yellow one proportions are good. All the pink heads would look better with at least two strands for bulk (or two layers wrapping). Watch your length on tails making them about the body length. All look clean & will catch fish though.

If you use her for the body, you can twist it on your tying thread or counter wrap it with thread to make it stronger.
Calling fishing a hobby is like calling brain surgery a job.
