You will need natural hair dubbing and little or no weight on the head, More like a wooly bugger fly to get the slow drop or float. The fly fishing shops sell a liquid that is applied to dry flies that keeps them from soaking up water, it is applied while you fish and reapplied as needed.

I just started tying crappie jigs back in February and have yet to tie any flys. Never got into fly fishing so just starting to learn about wooly boogers, foam spiders and nymphs. I figure if I learn to tie the smaller flys it will help make my bigger jigs that much better.

Check out McFly Angler on you tube. He has very good step by step videos. I watch a lot of his, the techniques that are used on a lot of the streamers can be used on jigs to get a bushy/buggy look. I have tied some swim jigs that I'm going to use for sandies and hybrids. The bright one is the same jig under UV light.
