    Default Temperature

Just starting to learn how to pour. What's the best temperature to try and keep the lead while pouring. I think the other day I had it to high, kept skimming the lead but could not get it clean enough and believe I screw up may Lee 4 pot. Been clean on this thing for hours. What is the dirt looking stuff that falls out of the lead and attaches to the bottom of the pot?
    Thanks for any help

Are you sure of your lead supply? Sounds like you might have dirty lead - zinc maybe.
If you are using wheel weights that might be your problem. Trying adding wax (small amount) - be careful because it can flash.
If your temp is too high you will have a blueish haze on top of your melted lead.
I crank my pot up until the lead starts melting and then turn back about half. All Pots are not the same. Think the older pots can get hotter.

If you got lead from a junk yard. You have to clean it before you put in your lee pot. Go to youtube and look for how to clean lead.
