I'm new to tying so still learning the jargon so forgive my ignorance but what is a thread hump?

I'm new too, that was my description, doubt it is a term.

Just meant a build-up of thread to form a bump

I tied the Icicle material on back about a 1/4 inch from the head. Those wraps combined with the mylar material (icicles) standing out, makes the polar fiber poof out a little. That gives it the fuller profile. When it's wet and moves through the water it will lay down a little, but all in all the hair has a nice full profile. May not matter a bit to a hungry fish. hahaha.

Been looking for the polar fiber you used but unable to at this point. Found this today in the city and gonna try it on the simple shad. It's supposed to be similar in action.
