Wink SMOKE AND MIRRORS USING FELT on jigheads

I am posting this here because a few of my friends asked me too. You can laugh at this stupid and crazy old man but this idea worked. I have been using a very light yet durable mylar that is chrome on one side and like smoke on the other side. I like it because of the daylight and darkness effect. Then I started using a small bit of (Blood Red) felt next to the collar before starting to tie the Smoke and Mirror Felt Collar Crappie jig. An old "Santa Clause hat is the perfect thickness and the blood red attractant color.) All fish are attracted to the sight of blood and the blood red felt does a wonderful job of mimicking a bleeding victim to the predator fish. Cut the felt into 1/8 wide strips and use just a tad on the collar. The small piece of felt is perfect for holding one or two drops of Gulp mixed with Wesson Cooking Oil, Garlic Powder, and Anise scent. Take a small eye dropper and just drop one or two drops on the felt. I dissipates slowly and lasts a very long time in the water. An empty bottle that had nose drops is the perfect size to put this mixture in, put it in your pocket, and take to the lake. Let the laughter begin...but I just had to share this with you because it works. Laugh at this crazy old man but remember you too will get old one day and have crazier thoughts than these to see if they work for fishing. I am NOT SELLING these because I no longer make lures as a business. I AM just sharing the concept idea with you. Now if you improve on the idea then you have my permission to take off and run with the concept. If you want to make a few for yourself just remember to put the felt on before you start to wrap the thread.

Not Crazy at all, i have been using felt balls,at least i think they are felt , 1/4 inch diameter balls in colors at Hobby Lobby. I tie them in behind the jighead and finish tying the jig . they hold scent very well. Been doing this for a couple years.

I have the small pom-poms that are sold at Hobby Lobby too. I carry them in a zip lock bag with a needle so I can thread one up the line before I tie the jig on. After tying on the jig I just slide the fuzzball down to the knot and add a drop of whatever scent I want....generally straight gulp. I've been doing this for many years.

Most of the time scent isn't needed. But if the fish do not want a bait in the profile or color carrying the scent, say Gulp or Powerbait, then I'll add the fuzzball to carry the scent yet still be able to switch colors or profile. And like the felt, these fuzzballs come in a whole world of colors so you can match the head color or contrast with it.

Good post Mike. Are you sure you want to be out of business when you come along with ideas like this? lol

Great idea and Tip. Going to give it a try.Thank's.We have been experimenting with coffee sent, from coffee ground's for some time now.Have had great success. Our Baits won a local Bass tour on a clear hard to fish river. The coffee scent caught the 5 lb'er.The crappie are eating them also and even a few cat fish.Started making our own plastic's because the plastic maker's in our area took the idea and want to charge us .30 cent's ea.Want 3000 order to pour. We are now pouring our own bait's for around .3 cents ea.

My red wiggler farm loves coffee grounds and corn meal. When they really have been good I give them some watermelon or apple as a treat.

Scent can make a case for its use on days when nothing is helping the fish bite until its added. Then there are days when adding scent seems to do more to shut them off than help the cause. Just think how many doors would open fo rus anglers if we could have a conversation with the scaly suckers.

Should slow the jig's rate of fall, too.

Someone asked me to post a photo of the smoke and mirror mylar...so here it is. I found the material at a thrift store. This is my chrome mirror jig.
