Fatman be the guy to talk too P.M. him!
This past duck season I shot several ducks that I skinned out and kept the feathers. I would like to tie some jigs and lures. Can someone point me in the right direction of which feathers to use from which part of the duck. I have read several websites but wanted to see what you guys had to say. I've got mallards, wood ducks and gadwall. Hens and stakes in each.

You guys really need to do a little studying about tying and all the pieces and parts! Almost all feathers can be used, but so many ways to use them! One should invest a little time reading lessons like at FAOL to learn what this stuff is all about. Learn the basics.

I love using feathers/parts of animals that I have shot! Earlier this winter I shot a couple Roosters and used various feathers to tie up some jigs!
Most use the Flank Feathers for the tail materials. Other things you need to study things like collars or wings and other uses. However when you buy duck feathers mostly it's Flank!
You want the flank and breast feathers - if they're still on the skin I'd pull them off and wash them in dawn and borax. Let em soak up shaking them every now and then. After drain and rinse I stick in a pillowcase and put in the dryer for 5 minutes of heat then turn to just air dry.
Here's a search on duck flank feathers

Wing feathers are good for wet flies - make sure you get all the meat out of the wings. It's much nicer tying with clean feathers. Every feather can be used for something in tying.
