Post Another way to tie a jig

I'm new to this forum. I've been a lurker on here off and on for a year or so. I do most of my posting on the Georgia forum. I am no where near the expertise of jig tying as some of ya'll are on here. I've been pouring my own jig heads for many years and in the past couple started tying my own. I am posting a couple of picks of the way I tie because I have not seen anyone else tie like I do (not saying it is anything special). It is a great way for people to get started because it is so easy. All I do is pour my jig head the color I want. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to bend the lead barb up before I paint. Wrap thread around the collar for the body and use mylar for the tail. Then I seal the body with clear nail polish. If I want to add some flash to it I use nail polish with glitter in it. By using thread for the body I have hundreds of body color possibilities and as far as the glitter is concerned there are many colors out there as well. One more step I do occasionally do is cut a curly tail off one of my grubs and slip it on the hook, and put a dab of clear polish to hold it on. Here are a few pics of a jig with and without glitter. Not the greatest tie job, but let me know what you think. The jig shown is junebug/blue/chartreuse.

Looking pretty good. Main thing is if they catch fish keep right on doing what you are doing. Think I am going to have to tie up a few like that. Thanks for the post.

First Welcome to the board! Always like new guys posting and sharing their work!

Nothing wrong with that and to me is much like any thread neck jig some of us tie, but yours builds up the body over a collar. Should be fine, but you can also do the same thing with hair like my little kip tail jigs. Also is the same thing a lot of fly tiers do on some flies, like one of my little hard body ant flies which uses thread for the color of the body and only difference then is the kind of glue used.

On my thread neck jigs I like using Softex in place of fingernail polish as I do like it a lot for that. As for the Mylar tail some here have used that and of course fly tiers do as well.

So bottom line for me is they look fine and should put fish on your box and that is what it's all about! If it make the tier happy then it's all good!

    Nice job,

A coat of Softex would do a better job and probably never tear up! That stuff is really tough! I could see the Plastisol making a nicer body though, just not sure how long it would last? You would have to tell me on that one as I only use to make soft plastic baits back in the 1970's and not for very long, I didn't care much for the molds we had and I burned heck out of my fingers one time and quit, LOL!
