    Default Sally Hansen Trick

I use Sally Hansen for head cement. I never liked using the brush even after I trimmed it down considerably. I got to where I would take the cap off and stick my bodkin in the bottle and that allowed me to place just a tiny amount where I needed it. I'm sure I'm not the first one to come up with this, but I thought it might be of use to someone. I've learned a lot from you guys and I wanted to contribute even it
if it's in a small way.

The plastic nozzle is not hollow. After taking pliers and removing the brush tip, I thought I could just push the needle in the tube and glue it in place. Nope, it's not hollow. I pulled my toolbox out and found the tinest drill bit I had and "carefully" drilled a hole. As you can see from the picture, depending on how long your needle is, you will need to trim it back. I trimmed mine back so my needle goes almost to the bottom of the bottle. Once your hole is drilled it's just a matter of using a little glue to hold it in place.

One other thing. This takes some time and you don't want to leave the lid off your Sally Hansen for that length of time, so it's best if you have an extra lid, which I did cause I had just used up a bottle.

That's pretty cool, but you know they sell bottles that have a built in bodkin right?

Here is one that works like your home made on which I do like what you did, really nice work!....if anyone just wants to buy a bottle of some type, they are out there and some better than others!

On my home made glue which is a lot thinner than Sally's I use these type plastic bottles with a cap. I don't think mine is this brand, but same type thing.

Those little bottles are handy. They make great precision oilers for reels or firearms.

Can you not just brush it on your line before whip finishing? I'm sure there are other times where that method isn't applicable.

I put about 1/2 Sally's and 1/2 polish remover. Thins it down real thin. Couple of drops does the trick. Runs through thread and does not build up like straight Sally's. Also if your Sally's starts to thicken in bottle just add a little remover to thin it back out. Makes a bottle of polish go a long way.

Way to messy! I bet you could never tell where I place a drop of glue on my jigs, well I know you can't, LOL! If you put glue or nail polish on your thread before the finish that stuff is going to be all over your tools and the chenille and maybe on you too! Don't do that!

cray you should stop buying all that high cost stuff in little bottles. I bough a Qt of Clear High Gloss Lacquer and a Qt of MEK about 9 years ago and still have over half of both. I am thinking that these will not run out before I am too old or in the ground! Also remember nail polish is just a lacquer!

I'm nowhere near as advanced on this stuff as you are skip. I've been doing that method for a little while though and it hasn't gone too badly for me. The small drop method would definitely be simpler with less chance for an aw shhhh.....ucks.

Well callmecamo there are no real rules and you should do what works for you! I just do what I picked up from a tip page from a fly tying forum and it just made sense to me and it soaks in so well that it covers a good bit of thread. so as long as you like what your doing I say keep doing that!
