Heard through the grapevine that the replacements were not much better than the first batch...foolin' with this bunch is like whippin' your butt with a hula hoop or a wrist watch.....it (never) ends and is a (waste) of time...we built'em so I guess we are going to have to break'em too...

Had issues with there 7/0 sickles also. Breaking at the bend. Each bad hook that breaks has a small knot on that bend. If you feel a small bump it will snap on you.
Never any issues until last year, when we started having these issues. Was getting ready to place an order for 5000 more 7/0 Sickle's and a bunch of jig hooks. But been holding up to see if they get the hooks fixed. Love the hook but Matzuo needs to learn what QC is. They don't check there hooks just make them and send them out. Shoot one box of 1000 had 300 hooks that was not even formed. Just wire..

I don't remember if I ever posted it here but this is a picture I took of a good sickle and a bad one.

It isn't going to jump out at you but the hook on the left is very different than the right. The first, 90* bend on the one on the left is the good one. Nice rounded bend with a smooth transition and not sigs of stress. The right one is litterally kinked instead of bent. I love the sickles for slamon and steelhead but I had to send back 1500 of them to Captain hooks and get different hooks because they couldn't get the good ones.

There is a couple versions of new sickle style hooks coming out that have the same basic design as the sickle without the problems and are not made in China or wherever they moved manufacturing to. I will look for them but I am not sure they have been incorporated into jig hooks yet.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

The octopus and steelhead hooks are being made by VMC and I think Mustad is coming out with one. No jig hooks in the style that I know of, YET. I know a few big time sporties that are working on getting them to make a jig hook but haven't heard much as far as progress.

I wrote and asked if they were ever going to make the barbarian hook in the lite wire smaller jig hook sizes and they were looking at it but no decision if they were going to.
