    Default JIG Size

Ive never fished much this time of year. Should i use a 1/32 or a 1/16 jig for Jan/Feb crappie? When the fish are in 20 ft. or so of water. I use 1/32 most of the spring time but wondering about now? thanks for your help

This time of year I use 1/8 and 1/4 oz jigs unless I'm fishing around deep water docks then I'll use a small head.

For tightlining, I agree with all of them. Depth, wind speed, and you need to be able to feel your jig. As light as you can get away with. I like to drop it to the bottom in 15-22 foot and gradually work it to the top. In winter in deep water, I spend the majority of my time in the first 5 feet off the bottom.

For casting, again I try to go as light as possible as crappie don't want to chase a bait. 1/32 if I can get away with it, otherwise it is almost always a 1/16th oz.

Deeper water or windy I use 1/8 a lot, but I don't fish this time of year and when Feb comes and they get in more shallow water I will go to 1/16 kip tail until they hit the banks and then I do go to a Roadrunner in 1/32.
