    Default Cold water in Iowa

This being the 5th coldest sping on record so far. I was just wondering what you folks thought about spawn in general. Will it go all at once once the sun comes out or do ya think it'll just be a little late? Frost on the grass this morning and it will be 80 in 10 days probably.Thumbs Up

I expect it to be a few days later than normal (early mid-may). That can all change with a warm rain and 5 days of 80 degree weather though.

Saturday we checked the water temp below the dam at Red Rock and it had dropped 6 degrees from Wednesday, then the cool over night temps and low daily hi's ain't helping matters either, plus cold rain that just won't go away.

Hey Thanks Slablicious I hope this weather turns around soon it has been raining here for 2 days now suppose to be in the 60's next week. I haven't even untarped the boat yet!!!! I am usually on the water somewhere on Good Friday but not this year. Headed to our cabin in Alexandria,MN for our 20th anual Crappie tournament on the 21 of May and have always hit it just right.

Fished roberts creek last night to no avail. Caught a few at 15' in 18' of water. Water temp was 47. It's going to be a late spawn - 3rd week in May at least. The females weren't bulging at all.

Big Creek has been "no luck" so far, water temps were just getting to 50 when the cold weather hit again. I'm down at Truman right now, they have been getting limits down here this past week, they are starting to hit the shallows. The spawn in Iowa can wait for me till after the first of may when I get back from catching a few big ones down here in Missouri :-)
