Default Anyone near Davenport need a gas buying partner for a day?

I'm here from Arizona for a few weeks of training and thought it would be cool to hook up for some local slab hunting this coming weekend. I'm happy to pay for fuel, food and bait, will need to borrow tackle though.
    Reply here or PM please?

Good luck, the Iowa forum is really quiet. Come over to the center of the state and look me up. I'm always for hunting slabs!

I live just north of Polk City. Do most of my fishing at Big Creek. The crappie aren't big, but I normally get enough to run me out of minnows. Went out yesterday morning, tried some jigs, since I was out of minnies. They are starting to hit jigs. I'll be out on the water tonight, tomorrow night, and Saturday. May get some Sunday too. So, if you have an interest, let me know. We could hit Saylorville, but it's not known for fish other than white bass (which are a lot of fun to catch).

I'd like to take you up on the offer. PM me your number or call me at 602-714-4996 to make final plans please. All day Sat is open for me and I sure don't mind the drive over as long as you can share a pole and some minor tackle. Gas and food is on me, let me know what license to buy and where is best to get it since I don't know my way around here well. I would assume the local Gander Mtn would have what I need right?
    Thanks

Local Gander Moutain? :-) You forget, you are in Iowa. We have "Bass Pro" shops!! You can get a license at any Wal-Mart, or hunting/fishing type store. There are a number of places in Ankeny, and I'm sure a lot of areas where you are. You can buy a 1 day license, if you don't plan on being back. I have to talk to my wife to see if she has anything planned for Saturday, but I'm pretty sure that answer is no. In fact she asked me last night, because she wanted to go to a new "knitting" shop in Ames. I suspect anytime Sat will be good. I normally like to get out early, mainly because I love watching the sun come up with all the colors in the trees, but I really have better luck with the bite later. The dock I use is only 4 miles from my place, so no matter what time you got here, it's no big deal. Anyway, I'll do a wife-check tonight and give you a buzz.

Sounds good, I'm an early riser and the cell phone is on all the time. My class will finish up tomorrow by noon but I can also take short calls during if needed.

sounds like nothing is planned for Sat., so if morning is your preference, it's good with me. Do you have a gps in your car?

No gps in the rental but pretty good at directions and finding addresses. How long do you think the drive is so I plan my departure from here correctly?
