    Default Cranking Lemon 5-2-24

launched at 7 and fished till 11:30 am. PICO Chrome Clown, Mud Bug, Killer Bee, and Fire Tiger were best colors. Chrome Clown even nailed around a 10lb flat head cat and ended up bending the hooks getting him released. Kept 23 crappie from 10” to 13.5” with all but 3 were males and the rest were females full of eggs not quite ready to spawn. Water temp was 70.5 so I have to think some are spawning. Speed was 1.8 to 2 mph if you went any slower you were slammed with small fish as i must have released 50-60 keeping my 3 rods busy as couple times I used only 2. Not alot of boats on Lemon so I also had main lake hot spots to my self. Lake was mirror calm till 11 am and slight breeze finally rippled the surface. Air temp when I loaded the boat was a hot sunny 84.

Knats are getting really bad and I spray and use Bug Soother from Amazon. Seems to really work great for about 6 hrs. Not that expensive either in Amazon.

Sweet! Never fished lemon but you and a few others on here convinced me to try cranks...it's been a blast but hadn't gotten them out much this year. Thanks for the photo inspiration! Hoping to stick a few tomorrow at Monroe. Jigging plastic has been good so far this year. Cheers!

Tried pulling some Pico's yesterday on the St. Joe at Mishawaka. No success, but got one about 12" on a jig in the shallows. She was full of eggs. Water temps were in the 67-68 range.

Best way to tell you at what depth to run the crankbaits, is check your electronics and where your seeing fish at the depth, run the cranks. With Lemon, I like running them about a foot or 2 above the bottom at this time of the year. I will stagger one at a medium depth of where I am seeing fish depth on electronics.

One of the friends of the wife sent me this pic of a Timber Ratttler in driveway of house at Lake Lemon. For his size, he is a big boy for Indiana size Timber Rattle Snakes.

Tea Tree Oil works on Knats too. Chrome Clown is a magnet for just about everything.
