    Default Lake Shaffer

Anyone fish Shaffer or Freeman? I usually don’t want to put the time in to learn new lakes but these two are within a half hour from me and I’m board with the lakes I’ve fished for years. Thought this year I would give one or both of these a shot before the boat traffic gets ridiculous. If anyone has any tips to save me hours of searching I would appreciate it. I’m set up for every style but prefer to cast .

    Thanks

If you check Indiana Slabmasters website and check past tournaments, it doesn’t show which of the 2 lakes contestants fished, but, look at the results and weight limit. Having fished several IBF Bass tourneys years ago, my choice for crappies would be Shafer but that’s a guess on my part. What I don’t like seeing the Slabmasters results is amounts of small size fish weighed in to get a total 7 fish limit weight. Hope someone that fishes the 2 lakes will chime in! Keep us posted on your fishing!

Freeman was always back then the better bass lake and I used to weigh in quite a few nice smallmouth.

Thanks for the tips. I found a lot of good information scanning the previous tournament info. Definitely seems like the bags are getting lighter these days! I vaguely remember it taking almost twice that to win not all that long ago.

I live in West Lafayette and I used too but not much anymore. It so busy that I find it not worth the effort and $15 launch fee doesn't sit well me either especially if I'm just wanting to fish a few hours in the evening. Last time I went on a Saturday morning and got there before day light. Had to wait a half hour to launch because of a bass tournament and those tournaments seem to be almost every Saturday. Last night I made a rare evening trip to Freeman and did better than expected. I couldn't find any casting but I don't have livescope and not good at casting. I long lined and got 12 keepers in a couple of hours. All fish seemed to come in 10 foot of water. Water temp 57 degrees.

Thanks for the update. I don’t have live scope myself and I won’t either. Something to be said for us hold outs still catching fish on our skills and know how. Not a shot at the live scope guys were just better is all! Lol
