Glad you retired. I myself came from a workaholic family and was raised same way. My retirement lasted 2 yrs and I found that hunting and fishing didn’t fill the void so when a group of business friends needed my expertise, I jumped on it. I can still pretty much hunt and fish when I want but prefer to stay busy and I have had enough of this lock down Covid 19 crap. Ready to fish and work again. My dad worked around in the family business as well as played alittle golf till 90. Died at 93. Mom, worked in the business as book keeper, Bill payer, answering phones and taking orders till 86. I think a person’s well being is that he needs to stay occupied and not complacent. It helped in my family to live longer for those of us that are still working somewhat. It doesn’t have to be a job full time as anything that occupies the sole and mind seems to me is more beneficial healthwise than becoming too complacent. Also, a lot of us that work or find a niche after retirement finds its a lot more beneficial also to our inner well being. Take your time,,test the waters of life...enjoy life and living.

Find something that challenges you and engages your brain. Could be making birdhouses, running a business, teaching etc., etc.. The thing is, it can be what you want it to be and doesn’t have to pay well or even at all.

I’ve spent the last week or so mounting adjustable wheels on a grader blade, with a detour of learning to be a better welder with several hours of YouTube along with a bunch of practice welding. I’ve more or less got the wheels done minus a couple of parts and am a better welder. I consider it a successful week!

I’m waiting on parts to rebuild the brakes on my RV. I’ll save several hundred bucks over hiring it done and will have better confidence in the work. That will occupy me for a day or two next week.

Finished wheel bearing service and general lube and inspection on the boat trailer last week so it’s ready for the road.

I can always find plenty to do and my wife finds more!

    Congratulations on your retirement.
I am 66 and retired a little over 7 years ago after 32 years 5 months on local Sheriffs Dept.
I’ll have to say it was right on time. Great career and pension.
If you are healthy take advantage of that every day.
If you have a recliner take it to the street for garbage pick up.
Put your watch in a drawer.
Try to get involved in something.
    Call old friends and reconnect.
Not to dangerous of a hobby. Bones take longer to heal at our age.
Wife convinced me to sell my paraglider and quit skydiving although both are safer than driving to the grocery.
Garage full of Harley Davidson’s that I’m keeping for the grandson.

I know, buy a boat and start fishing!!

Congratulations again, have fun, laugh, enjoy the life you have left.
    You deserve it.
    Chuck.

And another tip, don't take up jig tying.
It will become an obsession, and eat up your spare money.

My fishing partner (my wife) is a few years younger than I and won't be retiring soon.

I have quickly found that I have too much time on my hands and the days just drag by.
I hope to soon spend time fishing the East Fork of the White River from bank here in Columbus.
I could spend a few hours doing that each day after I do laundry, trash, etc.

I've never had many hobbies but I am going to have to find some.

Just wondering if any of you have dealt with what I'm going through?

Retirement isn't as easy as we all hope for but for those who have planned it can be wonderful.

I might be writing more and hopefully about catching fish, if not I'll be reading each day about how you are all doing.
I do enjoy what you all have to say, it is my morning start.

I'm right there with you. I retired, early, from GE, looked to much like they were on the verge of closing and I wanted to get out before we lost our pension. Couldn't stand it, went to work at a Wal-Mart as store handy man until I had major heart surgery and retired from there shortly after that with 15 years of service. Couldn't stand it, I've been working part time? as a driver for the fleet dept. at Oxmoor Auto Group for the last 5 years. Just made a round trip yesterday to Virginia down by the Potomac River, to deliver a F350. Just a little 1200 trip. Almost forgot, all that makes me sound old doesn't it? Well I am a VERY young 78as of last January and welcome to C.C. Louis.
