    Default Cataract was social today

Cataract was good to us today. Hit it about midday until about 5 pm. Many great slabs 12-13 inches. All on cranks, Pico, Bandit, and home made. WT was 58 at noon, warming to 64 by afternoon. Most fish suspended in 11-12 foot range, mix of males and females.

Good job! Tried some of the Bandits I bought last year for the first time yesterday. Hmmm. They work pretty good on my lake too!!!

Oh my, I knew this would happen! Started a search for "crankbaits" on C.C to see what was out there. I spent most of Sunday afternoon reading, since the wind was keeping me grounded up north. Ended up with a piece of paper and pen that somehow grew into a list. Now I have a confirmation in my email folder from PICO lures saying that an order for baits has been received. Can't imagine how that happened. And just so you know, I stumbled across the add for the 20% discount for C.C members in the "Sponsor Classifieds" section of the forum. After catching the ones we did last Friday, I can't wait to see what happens when I have more choices of colors to go along with some confidence. Go away Covid; it's time for crappies!

I take my rods rigged for long lining jigs and also my rods for cranking when I go out. If they are not hitting the crankbaits, I switch to the jigs. But,,,I have been hammering them on the cranks even with the water temps as low as 45 degrees about 3-4 weeks ago. Cold water means go slower using the crankbaits. 1.0 to 1.4 mph. Warmer water you can speed up alittle but nothing over about 1.4 to 1.7 mph. That works best for me. Change colors till find the right combo that excites them depending on your water clarity and your depth will determine where your finding the fish with your electronics.

Sorry to have caused your wallet some pain! I can't begin to tell you how many times I've done the same thing.

How jam packed has Cataract been past few days? Thinking about hitting it, but,,is it a Caddy Shack situation?

    Red face

I have a pretty big/wide fishing boat, (17' tiller deep V), so to me if I have a rod rigged for every possible scenario, I'm fine with that. Been fishing for crappie for the last 30 years. Just last year added spider rigging to my arsenal, although that is not my favorite way to fish. Pretty much been single pole jig fishing before that. With the addition of crank baits, I should be able to stay busy and catching fish. I don't have the latest and greatest electronics, but some HB SI and DI get the job done.
