    Default It’s starting!

Got on Lemon this morning at 9:30 am, long lined for a couple hours only catching a couple, switched to crank baits for a couple of hours fishing shallow to deep as possible, no takers, switched to jigs and caught s few small ones off a spot on the bank right next to creek channel pitching nd vertical jigging then decided to long line on a nothern westerly running bank in 9 to 12’ of water next to a bend by the creek channel and commenced to catching about 30 more and all but 2 were same size 8 to 9 inches, pure white, with the 2 being a 10 and a 11” inch fish. They are just starting up as that bank action was in 50.5 degree surface temp all the rest of the lake had dropped to 48-49 overnite and must have dropped due to the rain we got last nite. Fish won’t hit as they are stacked sold in the creek channel with bait balls everywhere but near the bank and no surface action breaking the surface anywhere. Water seemed alittle muddier and sky was totally overcast all day with a light breeze. I did see a couple of guys in a bass boat fish for crappies verticals jigging next to rip rap bank pulling small ones out of their spot but no keepers. Fish are there, its just cold water and we did have a dash of lightning last nite. Best colors was a purple/chartreuse hair PICO jig with a silver streamer for a tail as they ate that one up, and chartreuse tube injected with crappie nibbles as well as a black/chartreuse tailed tube the same, all dipped in slab sauce. Speed on long lining was 0.4 to 0.6 as any faster they would occassionally hit the jigs but miss setting the hooks. All jigs were 1/16 oz in weight also. Anything bigger didn’t work.

    Nice!

Roadrunners huh? Were those used longlining, or casting/jigging as well?

Fish down this way are 100 percent in pre spawn and full of eggs. They are inching their way in. All the small males are shallow. The big girls still hanging out in limbo. It's only going to get better.

    .

I mix the types of jigs up when long lining. Road runners will give you a edge with the blade on them in super muddy water weather jiggin or longlining. Turning blade will give off vibrations and alittle noise. Tubes injected with crappie nibbles and slab sauce gives out scent and taste. Most of the time when vertical jigging, I just use a colored jig head to contrast the body I use. Casting, RR ‘s work good as well as a beetle spin type blade bait. I have a box full of every color and size of beetle spins also but didn’t use them today. Curley tail body’s did not produce today as I tried a purple body chartreuse tail, yellow bod/white tail, and orange yellow combo curley tail with no hits. Maybe should have used darker colors on the curley tails. Anything with chartreuse color combo worked for me today. But the plain head hair purple body chartreuse tail was the hottie long lining. So go figure?

Its been about 5 degrees air temp warmer where I live warmer than at Bloomington/Monroe Res/Lemon and only talking of 45 miles when these weather fronts come thru. Those fish act like they are in ice water even tho the surface temp is cracking 50. And 2 days ago water temp was hit almost 52 all over so it went down a bit. Lemon is also a shallow lake that affects them. Only the creek channel that runs entire length of it is deep water.
