I got called off work today, but unfortunately not until 0730. So decide to go to another local public land lake. This time in Greene/Sullivan state forest.

I go to the bait shop first thing and get 2 dozen miners, bc the forecasted temp of 93 had me scared I couldn't keep em alive, more so when I couldn't find my aerator bucket. I grab an ice bucket(like from your hotel room) from the garage a decide it'll have to do. I also throw an extra ice pack in my cooler bag.

I launch before 0815. And have the first fish in the boat before 0830.

Hes lucky being the first crappie of the day, he gets to swim free. But his size didn't make me regret that one. It's pretty steady up until about 0930 or so. A few times I'd had fish on both poles, luckily I only use 2 in the kayak. Almost a spawn bite, just not quite as aggressive. It slows in this cove so I make my way across the lake to another shaded cove with decently steep drop offs and catch a couple LMB, and miss a few more bites.

Then a chainsaw starts, and next thing ya know, without warning, a tree is felled and the top hits no more than 50 yards from the cove I was in. So deciding that prolly wasnt the best place to fish I moved again. Had 1 or 2 more scattered crappie, a couple rock bass, and a couple lmb in the next couple hours.

The heat has picked up at this point and running extremely low on minnows I tell myself to hit the first cove again on my way out. As I paddle up I reach in my makeshift minner bucket to find I have a grand total of 2 left. Well I landed 2 fish on as many minners so naturally I can't leave now. Luckily I have my small kayak jig/tackle box. And a bottle of slab sauce. I tie on double jigs on each pole to troll the lake 1 or 2 times before calling it quits. On second lap I snag. I cut and retie. Well I was just drifting and pay no attention and drifted back into my sweet spot.

I went ahead and casted the single blue ice BGBS on an orange or pink arkie jig head. First cast to no avail, BUT WAIT!, I had a bottle of slab sauce! I squirt it down and first cast and bam! Fish on! A 10+ inch crappie. Things are getting good again. Now I'm not a huge jig fisherman guys, but i always remember everyone saying reapply after you catch a fish or dont see the slick on the water so I sprayed her again, and bam! For someone who doesn't jig fish much, I was ecstatic. I ended up getting 6 or 8 more fish to the yak before the heat ran me off the water around 130 or so. With blue ice and monkey milk BGBS on either a orange or pink head was the only colors I could get any response from.

All in all I ain't mad about getting called off work. They says a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work, but what about good days of fishing when you should be working? Lol. But caught a limit but brought home just shy. Hope you enjoy, I know I did!
