West Boggs today was shut down this morning due to a cold front overnite and wind all morning straight out of the north. I did catch 20 bass on jigs and crank baits longlining and 4 were legal fish up to 3 lbs. this lake has a lot of 13” bass in it since stocking. Also, finally nailed a blue gill that was a chunk and 10 inches long. No crappie caught and when I left water temp was 61. I only saw 2 crappies caught by other fishermen by 2:30 pm and everybody I chatted with didn’t catch any either. This lake can be fickle as all get out. Yesterday fiend of mine fished it and kept 20 crappies all 11-12 inch and he fishes it 4-5 times a week and it’s strickly more miss than hit with the way weather has been. I also on the way home pulled over and chatted with another friend of mine that was coming back from bass fishing Turtle Creek. Today, he was 1 of 6 boats out fishing it, and he caught the only bass that was checked on by the boat house you check in and out of. He told me yesterday 5 boats had caught over 175 bass. That’s the difference a cold front morning makes on a shallow lake like Turtle Creek. If you do decide to fish it, be careful of the wind. They will sound a siren if the wind goes above 10-15 mph and you have to immediately get off the lake. The problem is the launch site is totally unprotected so you’re likely to swamp the boat getting it trailered. This used to be a great crappie lake and rumor has it they are going to restock it. Will keep you posted if I hear anything.
