Summit Lake
My fishing partner and I are going to Summit Lake on Saturday for the first time. Not knowing the layout, is there any areas we should steer clear of? We don't want to be in an area that is never productive. We are bringing the the sunscreen and a large live well!!

How did it go?
We have fished summit, but its been from shore or in small boats/canoe.

My fellow anglers, our outing Saturday at Summit Lake was extremely disappointing. We opted to just fish for Bulegill and Pearch just to get a feel for the lake. After getting on the lake at 6:45 AM I didn't catch a keeper until 12:30. The wind was coming from the Southwest around 15 mph, 85 degrees and the water was choppy. The small bays were heavy with weeds and such. We caught a total of 4 fish that was in the live well. It is not very often we have to throw fish back, but it was one of those days. I have to say I will be hard pressed to come back here again. The lake was nice and north boat ramp was nice and wide. Maybe later this year.

Ah thats too bad.
We have avoided going here since we got our bigger boat mainly because Brookville is a shorter drive.
We have had some luck, but all perch or bluegill. We jigged some perch on our last trip around the trees in the north east coves past the north ramp. We have also had good fun with bluegill in the evenings in the extreme northern parts of the lake, up by the closed off sections. Thats been our extent of experience so far.
We did fish it earlier this spring from our tiny 8.5' plastic pontoon, but with the winds, the water just gets too rough for tiny boats. We had some pucker factor trying to get back to the north ramp after a morning of fishing, facing some small whitecaps while crossing the larger body of water. Honestly that trip was probably the reason I decided to buy our 16.5' Lowe. We had fished it a few years back from a canoe, with similar results in even higher winds.. All other times were from renting jon boats and going out with kids when they were younger.

I've fished Summit a few times in the past and have never had any luck. The way that lake sits and the fact that it's a 800 sum acre no wake lake any wind at all makes it pretty rough, I'm not a fan of trolling on white caps. I know I won't go back.

Love summit. Usually do real good there. Lots of fish...lots of submerged weeds n wood. Straight out from north ramp always puts fish in boat. Gotta fish deep there due to water clarity. 10+
