Where are you located? I could probably point you in the right direction. I have a lot of experience on the Markalnd, Mcalpine, and Cannelton pools. The river is a fabulous resource that is intimidating. These three pools a very easily navigated. Just keep a mindful eye on current and wind conditions. It can throw up some mighty rollers if it gets right.

I live near the McAlpine pool and I'll tell you this, until you've been out on the river a couple of times with someone that knows it and can share their knowledge of it be EXTREMELY careful as it can turn on you in a heart beat and don't go alone.
Just my opinion, but then because of it I won't even go on the Ohio myself, but that's just me.WEAR YOUR P.F.D.

and stay as far away from the barge traffic as they can throw immense rollers enough to swamp a small sided boat.

Went to my spot on the river yesterday and not a single crappie. Spots were stacked up though, and I cant leave biting fish. So nailed 30 or so. The river can produce crappie, and some days they have vanished.
