Would submersible lights require a 12 volt battery? I haven't ice fished in a while and am still getting my gear together and dialed in. Eventually I plan on getting a sled together to haul stuff around on the ice so a battery would not be a problem. Until then, I am traveling lightly. Today the ice doesn't look good because of 50 degree temps. May be a while before the cold temps return.

Use a led light, then you can use a smaller 9mah hr batter or similar

What I have done in the past for a locator is use (2) 6-volt lantern batteries. Tape the 2 batteries together, connect the (+) of one battery and the (-) of the other battery. I used a short jumper with an alligator clip on each end. This will give you a 12 volt battery. Don't know how long it will last on a lite, but I could run my locator for 2 weeks with no problem.

I just need to put together a little sled, then taking a battery for lights wouldn't be that hard. I haven't been on the ice for a few years and am still getting my gear together.
