    Default hook size

I have always used sixteenth oz jigs for crappie fishing and not sure what size hook are on them. I normally just buy them from the store but I'm Going to start ordering in bulk so what size hook do you guys prefer or normally use. I was thinking I normally use a 2 or 4

I like a 2 when using live bait, but that is also because I like to use shiners if I can. When using artificial, I like the 4 mainly because I feel like the more hook there is, the more hook there is to get caught on brush. As long as you keep the tension on the fish have a forgiving pole, very few will get off of even size 6 and 8 hooks. Ice guys will testify to that.

a guy by the name of Mullen used to make the custom jigs. I ordered from him several times but not recently. He also made them with a wire weed guard. He would be advertised on the board if he still makes them.

Gone_fishing is correct ... Paul Mullins can make you most any kind of jig you could possibly want. He goes by Grousefly on this site, and can be reached by PM. He's not a Member Sponsor, so he won't show up on their classifieds forum.

I use 1/32 & 1/16oz jig heads ... with both #4 & #2 Aberdeen hooks. I get them custom made weedless by Grousefly (for casting) with the fiber brush style weed guard & the Y shaped plastic weed guard. I've only recently gone to mostly using a #2 hook in both the 1/32 & 1/16oz heads, because I've started using larger plastic bodies and want to have a good gap clearance between the body & hook point.

I get my painted, open hook jigs from "slabeye" (Rodney Goforth) and I believe he uses a #4 hook on his 1/16oz heads. I'm not sure if he is still making them, so send him a PM if interested. I can tell you that he makes a great plastic bait, that's soft but durable and has vibrant colors. You can see his plastic bait selection at : https://sites.google.com/site/slaban...menu/Jig-Bodys ... then contact him by PM for ordering info.
