    Default Ohio River Creeks

Do any Southern Indiana crappie com fish the feeder creeks in the river? Are they worth trying this time of year? Any recommendations as to which is best?

The River is possibly our best fishery, by size of fish standards. Any creek or backwater that holds a few feet of water can hold crappie at one time or another. I have mainly fished the Markland Pool in recent years, but I have no doubt that the fishing throughout the river system is good to great. As water temps plummet, look for them in places that receive the least amount of current. They don't like much current to begin with, but they can handle very little of it once their body temps get low. This makes the creeks a pretty sweet place....

You'll also want to look in any bays or marinas. Youll be suprised how shallow they will be. Last January caught em less than 3 ft deep in the back of a marina. Water temp was 42. The bait was there and so were the fish. I don't fish for em anywhere else. And I don't start crappie fishing till late october and I chase em through the winter.

I mean I don't fish anywhere else but the river, not just bays and marinas

I know Big Deer and Little Deer Creeks are popular crappie spots. Just east of Tell City

More and more every year. It's defiantly getting Kdfw and Idnr's attention. Saw a lot of conservation officers out the last winter. That's a pretty rare sight around here

Most of the Cannelton pool creeks are pretty good and fish very similar. Deer will draw a crowd at times, but there's a lot of options down there.
