You shouldn't need anything other than time
I'd like to start a local crappie club and have tournaments. Just not sure how to go about it. Don't know if i need permits? Permissions? Maybe a few of you guys can help. Thanks

If you have less then 15 boats then no permit is needed to fish our reservoirs. However if you go over 15 boats then you will need a permit from the DNR and they require liability insurance which isn't cheap.
If I recall they require $5 per boat for the permit and a deposit is required.
Major PAIN in the neck!
There is the Indiana Slab Masters that fish all over the state if you want to fish some tournaments.
Tom Hankins
Lake Fork Trophy Lures
Whisker Seeker Tackle
Moss Back Fish Rack
Cumberland Crappie
G3 Boats
I know that's the problem with slab masters. It's all over the state. You'd about have to be retired to make enough to be competitive. Thanks for the info. Big help

If interested check out the tourneys at Cataract Slab Masters They fish on Thursday mornings at just 10.00 dollars per boat, cheap
Where would the local be from?
Slab Slayen, I am the president of the Indiana Slab Masters, don't hesitate to call me and I will give you any and all the information I can (317-752-8440). If it's going to be a real small club you can pull it off in your area of Missy and Sally. The problem is once you get over the 15 boat mark as TDHcrappiemaster stated, You have to go to the tournament draw and get permits, have club insurance, pay for the permit by the amount of boats, etc. and Start up cost for a club isn't exactly cheap either. We started the ISM with a $500.00 set of scales and about a $50-60.00 weigh basket. Those weren't very accurate either. You'll have to have weigh vouchers, or some kind of book keeping, and also come up with an amount to charge per tournament and payback schedule. This is the 5th year of the Indiana Slab Masters, and I can tell you from experience, you better be very dedicated and have huge passion to start a club. Lots of your personal time and money will go into it and you will find there is not a lot of people who want to be an officer, and just want to fish. Good luck and if I can be of any help, please call!
