    Default boat mechanic advice

I was recently given a bass boat from a friend. It's a 1986 16ft BASS TRACKER. The boat was garage kept but needs work. It needs some of the front fishing deck replaced and in between the seats the floor was replaced but not done right. The previous owner had motor tuned up and checked out. They used the boat once after tune up. And then boat set for 7 years in garage unused and untouched. I would like to have soft decking replaced and have entire boat carpeted. And have the motor checked out and a tune up done. And check entire boat to make sure live well is good and wiring is good. So I'm looking for a good boat mechanic in Bloomington area. If anyone works on boats or knows a good mechanic I would appreciate it if you could send me contact info. I don't want to take my boat to a dealer or big boat shop. I can't afford the rates of a big shop. Thanks a lot and GOOD FISHING!

Call the Fishing Shedd on 446. Talk to Rick the owner and see who he would recommend. He may be able to give you some leads, he has alot of boat rentals.

I've heard nothing but good things about this guy: Brian's Boat Repair - 711 N. JFK Ave, Loogootee. Phone: 295-4368

May be a little out of your way.

The flooring and carpet will kill you to pay to have it done. If you can work with wood at all, consider doing it yourself.

You will need a carb rebuild, new fuel lines and a waterpump rebuild for sure on the outboard. Get it in now while business is slow and you might save some money.

jpayton on here knows his stuff and is over around Ninevah. It may be tough to find someone that is a mechanic and willing do deal with your flooring issues. You may take Catfan's advice and attempt that on your own. You could probably screw it up twice and still be money ahead.

I've put three different floors in boats and carpeted all of them. Its not as big of a deal as you may think, basic tools, and just a little know how, and you can complete this yourself. Measure twice and cut once, and save yourself a ton of money.
