    Default Cataract or monroe

Which lake has better crappie fishing cataract or Monroe? I'm a new member and have not done much fishing on big lakes and reservoirs. I have done some shore fishing on Monroe and had some good days. Have only fished cataract once and didnt get to see much of the lake. I just got my first boat and plan to do a lot of fishing this year. Thanks for any advice or suggestions you can give. Sorry one more ? I was told by a couple of people that cataract was too dirty and not to eat any fish you catch there. Is that true?

Monroe is a big lake, and you have to fish it alot to learn where the big ones hang out. You will catch a TON of 9the inch fish and smaller. A TON!! if you want a wall hanger Monroe definitely has them on it.
Cataract is a great lake to fish also. I haven't fished Cataract as much as some of the guys on here but it does have alot of quality fish in it. Both are great and beautiful lakes. I've kept fish from cataract to eat and I know of others who have also.
Check out www.indianaslabmasters for cataract and monroe tournament results and pictures.
Also google indiana crappie and catfish guide service and check out Tom Hankins guide service. He is a great guy and a heck of a fisherman. He has pictures of alot of nice fish also.
Indiana slab masters puts on crappie tournaments that cost next to nothing to fish in and you can learn a ton from alot from all the guys fishing.

Cataract did have some contamination issues years back. Someone may be in jail over it, not sure. That place moves a lot of water in a years time, so I don't know what the effects could possibly be. It doesn't hurt my feelings to take a few crappies out of there...

There's a lot of smaller fish at the cat right now, so either place should get you a fair amount of action. I would expect the next couple years to be a lot of fun over there.

Monroe is certainly big by Indiana's standards. Love it or hate it, it can be a struggle to the best of anglers at times. I'm still waiting my turn for one of the 2 lb+ fish that roam those waters. The good ones are in there, but for most it will require many trips to develop some sort of pattern. Either way, you're fishin...

Reservoirdog I would recommend Cataract if you want to catch some fish to eat. Like Wannabe and Fillet said Monroe has the occasional trophy but there are a ton of 5-6" fish that will drive you crazy.
As far as eating fish from Cataract you will be fine. There has never been any advisory posted by the DNR for consuming fish out of Cataract.

Good luck with the place you choose.
