    Default Deep Cycle Battery

What is the best deep cycle battery on the market? I heard that they don't make the Dual Pro any more. Seems like AGM type may be the way to go since it is the latest technology, but have heard the wet cells still do a better job for deep cycle Apps?

Do we have a battery expert on here?

CatFan in SW Indiana knows his stuff. Read any of his posts ....or pm him ...could probably get you a real good answer to any questions you have. If I remember right, he worked in the industry.

I have had good luck with Wallmart batteries. Now if you have unlimited income you might take a look at these.

Define what the best battery for you is. Long day on the water? Long life? Low price? Low weight? Tolerant of abuse? Obviously you want them all, but if you prioritize, you can make a better choice.

AGMs have advantages, but it comes with a price. Mostly money. I find it hard to justify spending the money to get anything other than Everstarts. Decent batteries for a decent price and you can find a Walmart anywhere for warranty exchange.

There are only a few manufacturers that sell the same batteries with different names on them.

If you have any issues with being able to charge your battery every day or with being able to check the electrolyte level once a month, AGMs might be a good choice. Cabela's sells their AGMs at pretty decent prices when they are on sale. I wouldn't consider anything smaller than the 27s though. Let me know or PM me your phone number and I'll give you a call to explain more if you want.

Thanks Catfan, I have three everstarts on my boat and I have had great luck with them. Although if its a two year battery then expect it to last two years.
But then again I use the heck out of my batteries. I never drop an anchor so the trolling motor is running all the time.
Someone else my get several years out of them?

I have had two everstart batteries since I bought my boat in 05 and am just getting ready to buy new ones. Battery just started not performing all day, 4hrs into fishing I can tell it is loosing power and fast, plus like catfan said you can find a wal-mart anywhere and they are return friendly.

I run Delco Energizers. I am not nearly as knowledgeable as Catfan is about batteries. I put the Delco's in my boat in 2005. I fish spring and fall in the Midwest usually 3 to 5 days a week and the winter in Florida. I never anchor, therefore the trolling motor is constantly churning. In Florida I am always running in vegetatiion, lily pads, hydrilla and bullrushes. I have not kept up with the industry and I know that some people, like Johnson Controls, manufacture batteries for different people. When I need batteries again I will go looking for Delco's.

Hope you make the right decision.

Johnson Controls bought the battery business from Delphi in 2006. That included the factory and the rights to the Delco name for batteries.

I would buy Interstate SRM 27 or 29 deep cycles. Bought my boat in May of 05' and I just replaced my batteries last month with 29's. I have fished alot in the last 6 year. Could'nt be happier with the life of them and one battery was'nt even dead yet.
