    Default Indy Area Safe Ice

I'm probably days, if not weeks, early asking this, but has anyone found safe ice in the Indy area?

Not yet. With these bitter cold temps forecasted for atleast the next 15 days it won't be long. Lakes should freeze 1inch a day in these temps. Just be careful around private docks who use pumps to prevent water from freezing. it could be 8in. thick and then 1in. I'm relining my ice reels right now.

Sorry, I know everyone has a major itch to get on the ice, Im still hoping this global warming crap will kick in. Back in 03, it was terrible when we were able to use the boat almost all winter. Upper 30s till mid February if I remember right. I used to be a die hard for the ice but that spoiled me.

Eagle Creek is locked. I saw a shanty in the bay near the dam that goes to the Sailboat Club.

Sailboat bay usually freezes up quite nice on Eagle Creek. I remember back 15 years ago, I lived in Kokomo and fished it through the ice for almost 2 months. I could not tell you the number of crappie limits we were able to catch on Jiggin Rapalas at the submerged bridge over the creek channel. Lots of fun.
