Forgot to mention,,permethrin is found in most of your pet dog tic and flea applications...but,DO NOT get it on house cats..it will kill em.

We have been finding more morels this year than in a long time. Two days ago we found almost all yellow ones but they weren't the huge yellow ones but good size. We too are finding them places we have never found them before and some of our best spots finding little or none. Last time out we just went to find new spots that we can hopefully go back to in future years to hunt.

Thanks for the tip on the permethrin. I always bought permanone in an aerosol can and the active ingredient is permethrin I didn't know you could buy it any other way. I would much rather spray this product from a trigger sprayer less will get airborne. I would like to caution anyone using the product to read the directions.

So has anybody been finding any? I have heard of a few being found in this area and am planning a trip tomarrow.

I would say,,mid to late week this coming week is when you will find them. They are starting to find the early greys, and blacks around French Lick. I went out yesterday and checked a early patch for blacks yesterday and didn't find any and will check a couple of more today. When I step in the deep woods tho,,its not ready yet. I'm about 30 miles north of FL.

Mid to late week. Went out over the weekend and checked several areas. Found a few small greys,,and 6 small blacks. All were just up and fresh,,and smallish..no bigger than 2" at the most. Thurs, Friday,,they will start in the big woods I am thinking. If you have a open area patch with lots of sunlight..they should be coming up. Yellows/whites will follow the blacks. Didn't find any whites either around the poplars, ash, or elms. They should start maybe this weekend also. Farther south,,they might be finding them.

We went out on Sat. and found 20 or so blacks. Most were small, like you said, but there were a few good ones. There were even a few dried up! We never really looked for grays. They never seem to come up until the blacks are up good and the under growth is a little thicker. By mid to late this week they should really be coming on strong.

I forgot to mention we also found a few deer ticks on us already. Be on the look out!!

I spray all clothing with permethrin and let dry..then spray down with deet and still dress in layers, and wear OR bug gaitors as well. What I hate getting into more than ticks is the danged turkey mites that will eat you worse than chiggers.

Got a couple of reports they are finding the yellows just south of me. Went out yesterday,,and hiked the hills for alittle over 3 miles and checked several places I always find them. Don't know what is up,,but its spotty, as in my patches of the early blacks around the poplars on the north slopes,,I would only find one about every 20 to 30 ft scattered out and not in a patch of bunches like I always find them. Came up after a few hours, of only about a pound or so. No other types of mushrooms either as I find them too. Looks like a late year. Same around here for the turkeys,,,I am still seeing toms together as well as the hens together and not large flocks like in the past. I am thinking we have less birds this year,,maybe to all the past flooding last couple of years, or either the coyotes and bobcats are taking their toll. We have tons of bobcats now everywhere. Birds are not as active as they should be and looking pretty thinned out as far as numbers. Lake year on both the mushrooms and turkeys maybe. Time will tell.
