welcome to the site!!
Hello, everyone. I'm new to the site, but have been reading/lurking here for quite some time. I typically fish Mark Twain Lake and some farm lakes in MO for crappie, with the occasional visit to Kinkaid.
I have a question. I was planning on fishing the Carlyle spillway this week for sauger/walleye, but I noticed they're releasing 7500 cfs through the dam as of Friday. I assume that would kill any fishing opportunity in the tailwater.
Any ideas on where else to try for sauger or walleye? I don't want any tips or secrets. I just want to fish where I know walleye/sauger live. I may head to the Shelbyville spillway. Discharge there is just under 2000 cfs. Thanks.
welcome to the site!!

I don't know if this will help any, but I had talked to a man and his son up at BPS in St. Louis and they said they had caught some keeper sauger on the Meramec River trolling between Kirkwood and Fenton. This was around the first of the this month, and they were small crankbaits with white jig trailers. They said they caught quite a few, but I don't know what that translates into numbers.
And WELCOME to the board!!!!

A FISH IN THE PAN IS WORTH TWO IN THE LAKE
Welcome to the site. I know last week they were releasing a little over 5000 at Carlyle and it was muddy. And this week they are releasing 7500. I would say it has just made it worse for the time being. It went from a little over 2000 two weeks ago to about
7500. Thats the only reason I didn't drive up there this week again. I'm going to wait until things settle down some.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I figured Carlyle would be a lost cause for the time being, but I hadn't considered the fact that it might be muddy. I was thinking of just high water. I might try below Shelbyville still. I think 1950 cfs release isn't too bad, but the last reports I got from there were a lot of rough fish being snagged. Not too many walleye being reported. This site is a great resource. Thanks again.
Cory,
Welcome. I was down at Carlyle a week ago today. Nothing at all from the bank. Half a dozen boats with nothing either--altho' they indicated it was the first day they hadn't done well on the sauger. Lots of line in the water to snag your jigs. Shelby ought to be really good soon. March is probably my favorite time to fish the spillway. Night fishing is your best bet. You won't find quantity there, but there are always 6-10 lb 'eyes caught routinely there.
Good luck,
Brook
