Default Getting Out of Here at Two O'Clock Friday

This should be one interesting trip down to Paris Landing but this is my first shot at getting away. I am taking two very good fisherman with me, both have never been down there so they are in for an experience. If you have never fought big winds and fished a mile from shore. First time it is a little scary. We have ice storm just north of us and it is raining here. I just looked at Paris temps and it is 64 degrees at 6:00 AM on Friday. So all we have to do is get there. Tomorrow it is supposed to rain 50% chance but light winds 5mph and temps from morning low of 30 to high of 60 then cold front hits. Sunday low of 16 high of 34 WNW winds of 15 mph gradually dieing all day. Will be very tough. Then Monday temps low of 20 high of 29 and light winds 7 NW. I am no stranger of fighting wind down there and we should still be able to get into some big ins or I wouldn't go. I will have pics when we get back.

Those of you who haven't been down there to Paris Landing in winter. It is only four and a half hours from Lake Shelbyville and the winter ledge fishing is fantastic. Their winter weather is more like our November weather. Cold early in morning then nice in afternoon.

I take two buddies with me and we fish a three day weekend or full day Saturday, full day Sunday and come home at one o'clock on Monday almost full day. We bring home about 90-110 keepers on average and never keep ten inch fish. Keepers run from 11 and a half to 14 with a few 15 and 16 fish if we are lucky. Lots of thirteen and fourteen inch fish which makes it a ball. We fish bucktail quarter ounce jigs dipped in scent (big smallmouth jigs)chartreuse or white and Midsouth tubes on Bighead jigs quarter ounce pearl white and emerald blue shiner with crappie nibbles or sometimes tipped with minnows. One crank off bottom in 18-24 foot of water in brush or very near it. Tons of GPS waypoints are a must and knowledge of shallow areas. You can hit bottom in middle of lake especially at mouth of Big Sandy.

Wife and I are planning on going back January 2nd through 4th. We plan on working on winter DVD if wind is light. Too windy and you can't hear me on camera over wind noise. Hopefully weather will be better as she isn't the trooper she was when were dating. Wised up I guess. My birthday is the 3rd so surely Mother Nature will give me a break.

It has been too cold to hunt, let alone fish here at my house. But, it sounds like you have a great fishin' trip planned. I hope you take some video.

LSG, i wish i was in toe with you.... I know what you are talkin about when
you say its a experience! Was down there oct 30th, nov 1st and 2nd. With
no winds to speak of... Water was like glass for three days. Not like the Big Sandy area. Good luck... And can't wait to see those pic's..:D

    Hey Steve,

I've been looking at my Big Sandy hydrografix maps studying the ledges and wishing for better weather conditions. I hope the wind let you get where you wanted to fish and to hold there long enough to get a good catch. I was wondering if you hit the ledges out of Buchanan or out of Port. I've hit the ledges out of Port before with Richard Williams. It's a great fishery for sure. Good luck.
You don't know if you don't go.
