    Default 26 pound crappie!

NOT. Just kidding. But I got quite a surprise when I tossed a 16th ounce tube jig with a crappie niblet up into 2 feet of water Saturday afternoon. The bobber went under and complete chaos erupted as a set the hook on a 26 pound grass carp! Now I know, this is crappie.com...so im supposed to be talking about crappie but I had so much fun with this guy I had to tell the story. I had 4 pound line and a 7 foot spinning rod so the odds obviously were not on my side. I quickly swithed the reel over to free the handle so I could backreel rather than trust the tiny drag. So this went on for 20 minutes while i try and keep the boat in this little corner of the lake with the trolling motor where im blocked from the 25MPH wind. We went back and forth as a small crowd of people stopped to watch from the bank. Finally, after my right arm was numb, I got her into the boat and slipped to scale on it and then released it. I took a couple of pics of it in the water...hard to see the size of it without something to compare it to..but the bobber is 5 inches long if that helps. I pike fish alot in canada...so im decent at guessing length and i'd guess it at about 33 or 34 inches. Never caught one on rod and reel, didnt know they would bite a lure. I thought they were vegetarian!

chances are you had a bit of moss on your tube or something. It is very rare you catch a grass carp on a tube jig but can if there is moss on your tube. Local farm pond has 10-15 of these things that are close to 4 and 5 ft long and if i get moss on my jig they are a nuisance cause they will hammer my jig. I have caught 4 or 5 over the 6 years i have fished this particular pond.

Hey CarpPoop. I was fishing a tree at Forbes today and I had a carp go under the boat that was huge. I had to take a second look it was so big. I don't think I have ever seen one this big. I sure am glad it didn't grab my minnow.
But that one you caught looks like it would have been fun. Kinda looks like those fish I see Rollen Martin fishn for in the Florida mangrove areas. Don't remember the name of those fish but they are big.
