    Default Rod limit question

I was reading the reg’s and think I understand them but just want to make sure.

The state wide limit on the number of poles if you are trolling is 3 with no more than 2 hooks per pole but there are some lakes with site specific rules that you can only use 2 poles

    Do I have that right?

The state regs are general, some lakes have restrictions on the pole count. Check with each lake.

Yes you are correct. Such as Crab Orchard lake it is a two pole lake regulated by the Federal Government because of the Federal Refuge.

But unless the lake indicates otherwise, you are allowed three poles to "troll" with, two hooks on each pole. Now with that said if you are anchored or stationary with power poles or tied off that may change things up if you have each pole tagged with your information because this can fall under the trotline or jug fishing laws. Notice I say "can". I think this is all in how someone wants to read the law. And yes I have tested this theory out. I am personal friends with our local CPO and we have had this discussion.

Thanks that’s the way I understood it. But wanted to make sure. I grew up in southern Illinois and may drag my boat with me the next time we go back home for a visit. I have not fished there for over 20 years and it would be nice to fish some of the places that I used to fish.

if you go online and check the fishing regulations for Illinois it has each lake listed and regulations for that lake. I think you will find every lake other than the Corp. lakes are all 2 pole limit.

it looks like in 2019 regulations you don't have to label your rods this year.
