Went back to Clinton on the 26th and ate a piece of humble pie. Weather man said rain was supposed to stop at 9. Well, it rained pretty much all morning. Only managed to catch 8 crappies, 6 under. Weather didn't help, but the fish were not where they were last week. I tried shallow and deep with not much to show. I have good and bad days at Clinton. I still have a lot to learn about crappie fishing, but am wondering if I should concentrate my efforts on a different lake. Shelbyville would be an extra hour drive, but I'm wondering if it would be worth it.
I usually go to Clinton because it is 1 1/2 hr less drive than Shelbyville I have never been skunked at Clinton but times it is pretty slim but I think that is everywhere. Many on here will tell about going out and getting a limit in a couple hrs but that has never been my luck. Shelbyville is a lot to fish and I'm sure the most successful fish it a lot. I have 6 basic spots I hit at Clinton if nothing on them then I try different techniques or areas. My main enjoyment is slip bobbers and minnows 2nd is dabbing in brush with the crappie pole. Same methods work at Shelbyville to but do to location I go to Clinton. Don't know your location but Mill Creek by Marshall Il is a nice lake also but I stay overnight there takes 3 hrs to get there. Any time on the water is a good time catching is just a bonus. Good luck.
