Thread: Rend lake buck brush rod

I've used 11 & 12ft rods. Specifically an Ozark rod that, unfortunately,
never made it to market. It was a prototype and I've enjoyed it because
it has a soft to moderate tip and great backbone for lifting the fish out of
those tight holes. I've also used the Grizzly Jig Elite 3pc brush rod, which
I like because you can have a rod that goes from 9'6" to 10'6". Good luck

Crappie Pro Shop on Division St in Carterville, north of Hwy 13, they have
got just about every brand, length and weight you could find.

12 foot B and M Brushcutter.

I've used both and you nailed it. The longer rod reaches but gets tangled easy, especially in wind or if you set and miss on a crappie. Also, when that 5lb channel cat hits the long rod can be a challenge. I use heavy line, 14-16 lb mono, so I can just pull free when I get snagged 30 times a day. Eventually the hook will break but it saves a lot of re-rigging. Water is usually muddy enough I don't see how it affects anything. I find myself using a 7' medium light rod unless I need the reach and keep a long rod ready on the deck. Then again, I'm no crappie maser!

Thanks for the input. I came down one time and fished it the bushes last year. It was a interesting experience. I look forward to it again soon as soon as the water warms up. I’m just curious on what everyone uses for the tech.

I use a 12' BnM for dipping into holes in the brush, but not at Rend. Similar places.
