    Default Illinois boating regulations

Hey guys, need some input here. It has been many years since I have needed to know the boat equipment regs. It used to be that all boats needed a water removal device like bilge pump or similar. I can not find anything about it in the new regulations. What is the law?

Can't say i've ever been asked to show a bilge pump in a safety inspection. Regardless, it seem like a good thing to have!

Auto bilge pumps SHOULD be standard equipment in all boats!

I agree guys. I should have asked my question another way. I have 2 large lake boats that have bilge pumps. I also have a 12 ft Lake Jon with a 9.8 for 10HP limit lakes. The question was based on this small boat. I just don't want to get inspected only to find out I have a ticket coming for no bailing device. This boat has only been in private waters for the last 10 years and I plan to change that next year.

I think you just have to have a small pail that you can bail with if nessasary.

I used to use a plastic milk jug or a bleach bottle with the top cut off. Light weight, flexable and built-in handle.

I see nothing about Bilge pump requirements above.

That's why I asked. I didn't see it there either. Not that long ago it was in there and I know a guy who got fined for it and made to get the boat off the water until he had it resolved.

Get on plain and pull out the drain plug. Sucks all the water out Pop it back in all good. On another note if you should happen to tear a hole in your hull don't stop keep on trucking head to the nearest bank If you stop you sink. This is for aluminum boats with no bilge and no floatation foam
