Started weekend by catching many bass at a strip mine lake on Friday on minnow and bobber
Saturday went to lake Winnebago in Wisconsin with father in law for first time. Left at 4am and back at 10pm. It was cold and windy and water was 45 to 47. Intended target was white bass started out with a 24" walleye followed by and 18 a 16 and a 12. The got into white bass 29 total only threw back one dink. The rest were huge up to 16 inch all on jigs and minnow or plain minnow. Also caught an eel pout. No crappiemthere but found some channels that looked like might produce in spring.
had a few hours to kill Sunday morning. Shabbona, lake delevan Wisconsin, or fox chain were all within an hour of the house. Decided on shabbona as the hot spot map made it seem like the best fishing lake besides a Canada fly in trip. The place looks nice water was 52. For three hours got not one bite. Jigged trees and fished a road bed and sunmerged submerged bridge. No one else seemed to get any thing either. That is third time I have been in recent years and got skunked. Won't be going back. Also the pit toilet by ramp is terrible had head ache for hours. It was bad compared to third world coutries I had been too.
Anyone have any any experience at shabbona? The reports always seem to say good fishing is right right around the corner then it never happens and it freezes
after that went to a private stone quarry father in law belongs too I picked up bass on minnow he got a few nice crappie 12 foot down in probably 30 foot
I returned home at sunset on Sunday with a few minnows left. I tossed out slip bobbers and got five bass and four walleye all 14" after dark in 46 degree three foot water
Sorry not not much on crappie. Just wanted to let everyone know they probably should not go to shabbona.
Goal is to try Clinton later in week
would post pics but have a hard time on this sight and my iPad

I've never had any real luck on Shabbona. If you get a chance, hire
Jim Kopjo(Crappe Professor) for a day to learn about those waters.
Go with 3-4 guys to reduce costs. I believe he uses a pontoon on
Shabbona, or take one of your buds and fish with Denny Sands' son.
You can talk to him at the bait shop on Shabbona.
