    Default Carlyle August 2017

Got a chance to get out on Carlyle lake Tuesday the 15th from 5:30PM - 7:30PM

I haven't been on Carlyle since July 1st, just started trolling on the humps for white bass.

Tried several spots with 0 results , then on 2 spots the last hour I found a few. (caught about 40 white bass)

Seen A LOT of surface shad schools but no frenzy feeding action.

Brought home to clean 15 some good size & some average to small.

Didn't try for Crappie didn't have time , Next time!

Spent the rest of the evening pulling a stranded boat in for a couple of college students from MO. (They were grateful)

There parents need to give them extra college funds for gas!

Went to Carlyle yesterday. Got there at noon. Went and trolled the humps for 3 hours. Caught 7. Went and casted around the rocks at Coles creek. Nothing. Talked to a guy who was fishing the bank. Said the fish were biting on green head and white and pink jig. Said he caught 20 off the rocks at Coles creek in the morning. He was catching catfish of the point while we watched with the jigs. One was around 12 lbs. We then went over to Eldon Hazzlet campground and found tons of shad but no white's. Over all a good day of fishing but a poor day of catching. The guy at the bait shop said the fishermen have been catching nice crappie on cranks.

I haven't had as good of luck on the humps lately!

The Whites are chasing & feeding on schools of shad where the wind blows the shad against something.

You have to move around & cover quite a bit of area to find them just look for the shad!

Ive been finding them on wind blown points & mostly on wind blown rocks.

Unfortunately throwing toward the rocks you loose A LOT of lures!

They are tight against the rocks like 5" or you may not get a hit!

Good size a lot of them 12"+ & able to bring home about 15-25 each outing!

    Good Luck!

Nats You talking Whites or crappie? when I am in that kind of situation we have just went on shore with our long poles and dropped jigs along the rocks to keep from being hung up all the time and losing them. does that make sense in this situation?

    I'm talking about Whites!

The white bass are chasing shad & I generally am throwing a crank bait with a curly tail about 18" above the crank!

I don't know if a slow presentation like long pole/ing would get results! (Haven't tried it!)

I think it is a reaction strike! (Chasing shad)

    I went out yesterday from 4PM to 7PM & cleaned 28 large (12") Whites !

I tried at least 4 different wind blown areas & only came up with about 8 keepers.

The last stop I did well !!! (you have to cover a lot of area)

If you catch 1 white on the wind bank go over it several times, white's don't like to be alone!

When I go back over an area where I caught 1 or so I look @ my side scan & usually can see the whites
in the area that are not active, they will come in & out to feed.

    Good Luck,
