    Default Lake Decatur tips

Good evening guys! I've been out on Decatur a few times last year and had zero luck. Any tactics/areas anyone would recommend?

I've only fished it for a year, but had some luck around bridges and some docks. I mostly fish it from the bank, the docks around Nelson park hold some pretty nice fish. I've also caught some good ones from the bank in the along where rt 51 crosses it. The spillway holds really nice ones too. I've had best luck with pearl colored baby shad jigs or black/silver sliders. Always tip with crappie nibbles. In my experience, the quality of crappie there is second to none. There are some really nice crappie. Most are over ten inches and I usually have no problem getting them 12-16". The only problem is finding them, since there is very little structure to fish. I hope to get better at the lake, but I've caught enough and heard enough from the locals here to know that the size of the fish in there is great. Good luck, let us know how you do.

In basin 1, or main basin just west of the boat ramps, their is a concrete breaker. The boat docks going out along the inside of breaker will hold crappies. The depth which crappie can be caught is depending on water temp, and time of year is anywhere from 1-8 ft. Of water just adjust depth until you catch a few. Also up in big creek it can hold spawning crappies.

Had 10 over 10" late this afternoon fishing docks in basin 2. 6 feet down in 10 ft of water. Black and chartruese jigs, no minnows. Probably threw back 15 but also never had anything over 11.5"

Also, do you guys vertically jig, cast and retrieve or use a slip bobber with your jigs? Sorry I'm a newbie to crappie jig fishing. I grew up using minnows 100% of the time and I'm struggle bussing hard!
