    Default Good day on Shelbyville

Had a good day yesterday fishing on the ville. Threw a jig under a bobber for a few hours, ended with 5 keepers, and probably caught around 30 fish. Fish were suspended 2' down in 10-12' of water. Gonna try some deep brush on the south end next time to hopefully catch some bigger ones. Made a video out of my trip, check it out if you have the chance.

Thanks MontanaBoy thanked you for this post

Nice Vid, like to watch the local fishing holes on Youtube. Keep em' coming. I've never fished Shelbyville, but have always heard good things about it. Now that a buddy has a Yak, we are anxious to come down and fish and tent camp. Anyone have any recommendations? We would be coming from the North and fishing from Kayaks.

North end, water was pretty stained. Temps were right around 50.

Nice video, thanks for sharing. Regarding that notch you put on the rod, I have done similar. I don't want to use the bump board unless it is a close fish. To remedy that I bought a bag of 4" zip ties. Put 1 on the rod at 9", 10", 11'. If quickly holding it next to the rod shows it's on the fence for min. length it goes to the bump board. Just saves some time.

    Again, nice video.

I'm wondering the same thing about the bank action. I've been in Texas for the weekend so I'll be hitting Shelbyville when I get back. I'll let you guys know what I find! Also, that zip tie idea is awesome

Fish are being caught from the bank by the regulars. They have been catching all winter though. I have had some success the last few weeks. In areas I have had luck, you have to make pretty long casts and fish a jig about 6-8 feet deep. Others are catching more shallow, but for me the ones shallow have been short fish. I'm sure there are folks catching deeper and really shallow, just depends on where you are. Not easy this time of year for most kids bank fishing because of the long accurate casts. I usually let people with kids know when the spawn is getting good. That's when the kids have a blast. Just my opinion. That's all out the window if you are in a boat, and especially if you are with Birdman or another acompleshed guide. Those guys make it easy for kids year round!
