My wife and I went to Rend Lake yesterday. After catching a few out in the lake we decided,( the wife actually), to call it a day. We loaded the boat and prepared to hit the road. I had a good feeling about the docks at Sailboat Harbor. Sooo, I took a rod, some jigs and tubes over to the docks. Well I started to catch some fish. Nothing big, just having some fun. A young family came walking down the ramps and the little girl, who was 4 sat down by me and said, Mister you sure are catching a lot of fish. Are you a professional? After I almost choked on my stogie, I told her not hardly young lady. She had her little Spiderman fishing pole rigged with a floater, sinker, and a night crawler. I caught a 7 inch crappie and let her reel it in. Oh my, she was so happy and excited that she reeled it in. I put a jig head and tube on her line. Told her to cast out and count to 5 then reel in slowly.A few seconds later she caught her very first fish ever. All on her own. She continued to catch 8 or 10 fish. The pictures were being snapped right and left. Her mom, dad, and grandpa all quit fishing just to watch her. She had the time of her life. I think she is hooked for life. Please if you see a youngin' trying to fish, by all means them them out. To me this is the most wonderful thing a person can do for a child.

    Thanks for listing to me.

Nothing quite like teaching and watching a kid learn to fish. you find one once in awhile that it's not exactly their cup of tea. But it is pretty amazing to watch how much it is an instinctual thing for a human to want to catch a fish. Still something in our DNA from cave man day's..... say's we need to catch something.

    Good job.
I volunteer at a friends church. We take kids from divorced families fishing for a day. We go to some private strip mine pits and let the kids have at it. The kids mostly catch small Bass, Bluegill and Crappie. We have done a shore lunch for them too. Nothing more rewarding than watching the light bulb go off as a kid learns...

Quick, someone teach me how to fish so I can win this tournament!!!
