Default Registration process for an untitled boat?

Im sure someone here has to have an idea as to what the process is for getting a boat registered without previous reg or title? My boss has a nice 12ft V-Bottom that he gave me. I want to use it for a small lake & the canals. Anyone have any experience with this situation? Thanks!

I would just apply dor a lost title, as long as it has some kind of registration number.
Lets go soak a line. Pat

It can be done, but its a hassle and takes a long time. Like said before, go ahead and apply with DNR and they will reject your application and ask for an explanation. They may even want your boss to write an explanation as well. They'll tell you when they reject your application. Once you provide them with a satisfactory explanation they will probably send a warden out to your house to inspect it. After you pass all that you can resubmit your application and go through the the whole wait time again. I had to do that for a little jon boat a few years ago. Like I said a real pain.....but it can be done if you've got several months to get jacked around by the state.

If the boat was originally used only in a privately owned lake or pond it did not need a registration number.

They won't have a hang up with the registration, the (lack of) title is what is going to cause the headache.

I have been waiting over 3 months on mine. Nothing yet! Typical State of IL. Dan
