hey all, lurked a few times...had to register seems like a nice little spot.

originally from WA state, big trout guy but had to switch to crappie n bass when we got orders to Scott a few years back.

anyway, hearing the bite is pretty good down at Rend lately. anyone fishin' near or from the banks?

got a kitchen pass to go fishin' this friday, was thinking about trying either horseshoe up the middle off big bend drive at the old sand quarry or jackie branch from the bank.

rend is a bit of a drive so I gotta ask, think it might be worth it if fishin' from the bank? I know chances at horseshoe are pretty good from that spot but I am not sure I'd keep 'n eat from horseshoe! rend on the other hand I'll keep n eat for sure.

any suggestions very appreciated. see you around the forum,

    -Andy

    Thanks for the reply

Might just go for the 154 riprap idea, every time we drive past it I wish we could stop and walk the few hundred feet to the bridge along the riprap but never been down there without the wife and kids so didn't look like a walk I'd like to take them on. But being sans family this friday morning I think I'll give it a shot. ;P

I haven't fished Rend much and not at all from the bank, so no help there, but; Horseshoe can be decent from the bank. They can do really well on both causeways during the prespawn and spawn. I've not fished there, but alot of folks fish below the dam at Carlyle from the bank. Crappie "should" be fine to eat from Horseshoe.....I don't know if I'd eat a big old catfish from there, but I've eaten plenty of crappie and bluegill from there....and far as I know I don't glow in the dark

Hey what a coincidence, must be a sign. When I woke up about an hour ago I decided to go with Horseshoe instead as it's only about 30 mins away from me (vs. Rend which is 1.5 hours).

I could have sworn I read a bunch of cautionary notices in the old fishin' book this year about eating fish from HS lake but double-checked and don't see it so no worries!

Typically I just fish the drive-across bridge road thing, but recently read about and found on the map that up the middle of the lake on the left sounds pretty good.

Thanks again guys, will report back this weekend hopefully with some success.

If I fish from the bank I usually try the causeway towards the boat ramp, which is a right turn from the 111 entrance. I think the one to the left can be good as well. My guess is that it probably depends on which way the wind is blowing. If you fish there in the spring (and maybe in the fall as well) there seems to be a whole community of people that fish there regularly, so they must do OK. When I've fished off the one to the left I've done well right along the culvert and then further west from there. Try minnows, tube jigs, or some kind of spinner jig (like a road runner or beetle spin). You never know what you might catch.....could be crappie......could be a 3 foot long gar.
